This is me…

IMG_1340Why hello there!

Truth be told, I am one of the LAST people on the planet who should be writing a blog…I have not a lick of time, I’d rather NOT give tired, overused advice and I am a lukewarm writer. But here I am…sharing, because I can’t stop myself. I feel the NEED…aaaannnnddd I have some friends who keep bugging me about doing it, perhaps they will stop harassing me now.

With five(ish) careers and six children under my belt…wait for it…SIX? GASP!  Are they all yours?   Are you Catholic?   Is it a blended family?

Yes, no, no and yes. With a super-size family in these times, you have to be a little crazy and a lot RESOURCEFUL.

Kind friends tell me that I am organized, creative and an all round super woman.  WHA-AT?  says the tired, manic & and lazy inner-me.

Mostly, I have had to fake it a LOT! Yes, more truth. Fake it ’til ya make it baby! I say that to my kids all the time. Fortunately, along the way, I managed to figure out some cool stuff too! Some of my stuff might be helpful and some, might just be good for a laugh. I’m okay with that. Laughing is one thing I am really good at, make me laugh and you have a friend.

You never know what might show up here…I can be a bit of a Hammy (you know, Over the Hedge) my focus tends to wander a wee bit. I’m not skilled at editing what comes out of my mouth, bit of a blurter really. You would think by 44, I would have figured this out?!  Not. So. Much!  I am a lover of the arts , delicious food, copius amounts of wine, interesting people, exploring the world and moments-that-suck-the-freakin-breath-out-of-you…ya those.

UGH…since I’m on this whole honesty trip, I am not a natural Ginger. I, my friends am a Ginger BY CHOICE . My inner soul is all over being a red-head…I figure there was a mix-up on the day they handed out hair follicles.  There, it’s out, now we can all relax and move on!

Pull up a lap top and a coffee, lets share crazy life stories…food gobbled with laughter, family traditions full of sentiment and the odd moments that kick us straight in the gut and force us to make every moment count, for something. May as well have fun while we’re here!

“Don’t take life too seriously. You’ll never get out alive.”

I agree with some of the other’s comments; I think your writing is wonderful for many reasons. Besides the fluid, funny, upbeat enjoyment factor, there’s these scrumptious recipes you share…….I look forward to every one of them! I’m feeling just a tad envious of the glorious ginger mane, whether you chose it or it chose you, but you coming out of the closet about that is the bee’s knees. I, too, am a bit of a blurter……..ask your friendly neighbourhood dentist! Keep up the great blogging, sharing, foodie tidbits, and laughter, Deirdre; I think we all love it!

Thanks so much Mary, I’m so glad you enjoy it! Coming out of the closet about my hair…love that! Haha 🙂 I figure I can admit the ginger is chosen…the curl is natural 😉

so it seems that I am odd man out here , not a mom but Dad to 8 lovely semi-autonomous children and two wonderful grandchildren , so far ( with 6 daughter there will be many many more ) On my third career and loving every minute of it , I am passionate about food and cooking ever since all the children were old enough to pull a chair up to the counter they have been in my kitchen cooking , learning and loving . Its our special time together family is important above all else. One of my previous lives required that i travel the globe and as a result our food taste is eclectic, the two youngest who are home most often enjoy food network on tv and love to go to the grocery store to harvest ingredients and then we come home and cook like crazy people. Tonight is Prime rib dinner with stuffed mushroom caps ( crab and cream cheese) prawn skewers mashed taters and yorkshire pudding , black forrest cake for dessert , but that is just the way we roll here 🙂 love meeting people and good company and look forward to reading your blog 🙂 pleasure to meet you

Wow Pete, that dinner sounds amazing! I was feeling really off today, so my excitement was watching the food network from the couch. Lovely to meet you too, welcome to Just A Pinch of Ginger.

that perfect hand...

In Ocean's 11, Danny said that "the house always wins. If you play long enough, never change the stakes, then the house takes you. Unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big... and then, you take the house." Here's the hand I've been dealt, sometimes it's risky and sometimes it's safe, but all the time... it's perfect. It's mine.
